Career and Internship

A Career with Foundation for Inclusive Education

At the Foundation for Inclusive Education (FIED), we believe that meaningful work transforms both the individual and the community. We welcome people from diverse backgrounds—educators, social workers, IT specialists, WASH experts, communication officers, and peace advocates—to build fulfilling careers and internships with us. Joining FIED means more than holding a position; it means becoming part of a small but determined team working at the grassroots level to dismantle barriers to education and social justice in Cameroon. Every role, whether full-time or temporary, directly contributes to ensuring that children with disabilities and other marginalized groups gain access to quality schooling, clean water, hygiene facilities, and digital tools. For professionals and trainees alike, FIED offers a rare opportunity to see tangible impact: higher school retention rates, newly trained teachers using adaptive methods, and communities gradually shifting from exclusion to inclusion.

A Supportive and Developmental Internship Experience

Our internship program is designed for students, recent graduates, and career-changers who seek hands-on experience in the development sector. Interns at FIED are not relegated to peripheral tasks; instead, they are integrated into active projects—from organizing inclusive education workshops in rural schools to assisting with IT resource centers or helping document peacebuilding dialogues. Under the mentorship of Executive Director Nkegoah Ebenezer and senior staff, interns develop practical skills in project coordination, monitoring and evaluation, community mobilization, grant writing, and advocacy. We also prioritize reflective learning, providing regular feedback sessions and opportunities to lead small-scale initiatives. Many former interns have gone on to secure roles with international NGOs, government education departments, or have joined FIED permanently, citing the foundation's nurturing yet challenging environment as a turning point in their professional lives.

A Welcoming, Ethical, and Inclusive Workplace

FIED is committed to being a model of the inclusion we preach. We actively recruit individuals with disabilities, women, and members of marginalized communities, ensuring our team reflects the populations we serve. We offer flexible working arrangements, reasonable accommodations, and a culture of mutual respect where every voice is heard. Career staff benefit from ongoing professional development opportunities, including training in inclusive pedagogy, assistive technology, and conflict-sensitive programming. Interns receive a modest stipend where possible,

In a country like Cameroon, where regional tensions and socioeconomic disparities often limit opportunities for young people, FIED recognizes that inclusive education must go hand in hand with youth empowerment and sustainable peace. Beyond the classroom, the foundation runs a growing Digital Literacy and Peacebuilding Initiative, designed to equip adolescents and young adults—especially those from conflict-affected or marginalized communities—with essential information technology skills, while simultaneously fostering a culture of nonviolence, dialogue, and civic responsibility.

Through partnerships with local community centers and schools, FIED offers hands-on IT training in areas such as basic computer operation, internet safety, digital communication, and introductory coding. These sessions are deliberately integrated with peace education modules, where participants explore topics like conflict resolution, human rights, social cohesion, and the responsible use of social media to counter hate speech and misinformation. Young people learn not only how to navigate the digital world but also how to use digital tools as a force for positive change—whether by launching awareness campaigns, documenting local peace initiatives, or accessing online learning and employment opportunities.

FIED champions access to quality, inclusive education for all children, especially those with disabilities, orphans, and vulnerable children. This pillar covers:

  • Basic education access and retention
  • Scholarships and school kits
  • Special education support and assistive technologies
  • Rights-based advocacy for inclusive schooling
  • Goal: Ensure no child is left behind, regardless of ability or background

Recognizing the connection between learning and living conditions, FIED supports community well-being through:

  • Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) education and services
  • School hygiene clubs and menstrual health support
  • Health screenings and disability awareness
  • Nutrition and psychosocial support programs
  • Goal: Create safe, healthy environments where children can grow and learn.
